A Message From IMBA's President: Marc Hernandez
I am Marc Hernandez, Area Manager for Alterra Home Loans and I am very excited to serve as 2017 IMBA President.
I must give thanks to all those who afforded me the opportunity to accept such a grand nomination. I would like to thank my wife Brenda. She’s my cheerleader, my confidant and my reason for doing what I do. I’d like to thank the IMBA who continues to support and believe in me. Thanks to Barbara Zajicek for being our foundation, thanks to Lynn Koscher, Nick Parisi, Carl Pietraszewski, Mike Czuba and Amy Michalak for being great leaders in which I can draw from and can only hope to emulate. And I must thank my team, the good folks at Alterra Home Loans. Thanks for challenging me, allowing me to learn and grow with you and for being part of something so special.
Undoubtedly, there’s a sense of uncertainty of what’s to come, particularly with respect to our industry. Whether you’re at the edge of your seat anticipating swift and significant changes or your concerned about the ambiguity surrounding our regulations, one thing is true. All of our members, in some capacity, serve the American homeowner. We do so because we share a common belief. This belief, in many ways, founded the mortgage banking model we use today. This belief, saw us through several economic downturns, most notable the one many of us recently endured in which this December marks the 10-year anniversary. This belief has been challenged by countless obstacles from both believers and non-believers alike, from detrimental political agendas to deceptive business practices, from loose regulations to depleted capital it has overcome them all and it continues to persevere. We believe that homeownership is a fundamental principal of our county and that it fuels many aspects of our lives. At the end of the day, when it’s all said and done, we’re all facing the same direction. We believe in homeownership and what it means to our customers. We believe in homeownership and what it means to our families. I’m proud to call myself a mortgage banker. I’m proud to call members colleagues and friends. I’m proud to be part of such a meaningful and great association. And I’m truly humbled by the opportunity to lead it this year.
For more than ninety six years, the Illinois Mortgage Bankers Association has stood as the State’s premier mortgage banking trade association and it’s such an honor to be the President of this great organization.
We have an engaged, talented and committed Board of Directors. I look forward to working with them and with our membership to further the mission of IMBA. Thank you for your confidence and for such a rewarding opportunity. I look forward to a fantastic year.
This is the 96th Annual Meeting for the Illinois Mortgage Bankers Association. Hard to fathom, isn’t it? 96 years of gatherings like this one to advocate for our industry, to advocate for this shared belief. I implore you to advocate for our belief. Do it each and every day as you conduct your business. Advocate for your customers, advocate for your company, advocate for yourself. The IMBA is here for you. Use us as your conduit for change and betterment. Let us know what’s important to you. Because we don’t exist if not for you. As you know, together we are stronger and our cohesiveness will see us through the next set of challenges headed our way. And they’re coming. My vision is for the association to last another 96 years at the very least, and I know it will – why? Because I believe.
